A solo Modern Batik exhibition by artist Gabrielle Lasporte

In her 3rd Modern Batik series, Gabrielle continues her visual exploration of the human experience by delving into water. Water, essential for human survival, widely signifies healing and regeneration. Through this collection of work, Gabrielle explores the beauty of this natural force as a mirror for our lives.

As we live each day, emotions influence our growth through highs and lows. Just like the movement of water and the cycles of waves caused by external forces, we are destined to live this cycle over and over again. The many layers of dyes within each piece provide another metaphor for the layers of emotions, realizing how embracing them is ultimately our empowerment.

Gabrielle’s work has been shown at notable events including the Manifesto Festival Art Exhibit, Queen West Art Crawl, and Toronto Scotiabank Nuit Blanche.  In 2012-13, Gabrielle was commissioned to complete three sea-themed pieces for private collectors.  Her work on these pieces further inspired her to explore water as a theme in her development as a Modern Batik artist.  She was the first batik artist to participate in The Artist Project, a contemporary art fair in Toronto, where she will be returning in February 2015 to present her latest collection.

Her previous series ” Life Flow” was an abstract visual representation of the life cycle through colour and shapes. Through good or bad, life will always flow to its ultimately destiny.

EVENT JULY10 : 416 Art Lovers/ Art & Wine Social Mixer

hosted by Del Miller

for Toronto Art Lovers …

On this night we will bring together some of Toronto’s most amazing visual artists under an open sky.

The Screen Lounge roof top patio boasts a breathtaking view of bustling Yonge and College. The patio features a separate bar and lounge area and is fully serviced by the restaurant.

The scene will be sort of Entertainment District-esque with cushioned booths, a live DJ and the main attraction, the art.

Tell a friend and come out and meet new friends.

and oh, it’s FREE

Another one for the books!

Another first for me as an artist! The Artist Project was a great experience this past weekend and got to talk to many people about the art of batik and my technique. I also really liked making connections with fellow artists and talking about their work. Looking forward to many new things to come! g.

Curating Beautiful Spaces – Colourfield Salon

Although I have never actually written it down, a great part of what I do is to connect artists / artisans to opportunities to show their work and introduce their amazing talents to the world out there. It is something that I very strongly believe in. As an extension of what I do, I will now be curating spaces and events. Be on the lookout for great talent, ideas.

If you do share these photos, I ask you to please credit the artist shown as well as @gxcentrikByGabrielle ModernBatik / Gabrielle Lasporte.

OCT15.13 Bienvéni – Couleurs Kréyol

I will be taking part in a group show on October 15, 2013 as part of the Semaine Kreyol organized by Le Centre Francophone and Perle Noire Entertainment. 6pm located at Galerie Céline-Allard – 20, Lower Spadina

We invite you to attend the opening of a show featuring the work of three artists inspired by Créole culture. Gallery visitors will have an opportunity to sample local food and hear an accomplished guitarist as they view the work of Jean-Salomon André, Jimmy Chiale, and Gabrielle Lasporte. This event will be catered by Manjé Kreyol.
